50by58macro - random plant 2

Posted by
Emanuel Högberg (Borås, Sweden) on 3 July 2011 in Plant & Nature.

This is a series of 20 photos taken with my new sort of self made lens. Inspired by this -, I bought an old Soviet Zenit 3M with a 58mm Helios-44 f2.0 lens which I attached to a camera house lid with a hole screwed in it using some sealants. I really enjoy the results - a fast portrait lens (58x1.6mm on my EOS 500D) which forces me to use full manual. Very stimulating and I think it makes me grow as a photographer.

Preceding this is 10 photos, decreasing the range to the subjects with each shot. Starting off with a train station and a cat, going further to regular macro with the 58mm, then followed by two shots taken with the lens detached from the body, giving a narrow DOF which is tilted.

This one is a part of 10 photos taken with my cheap 50mm f1.8 held against the Helios lens, making for some (potentially) interesting shots of plants, potato sprouts, an oxeye daisy and a dragonfly, which sadly died.

All comments are very much appreciated, good or bad, though I might not answer each and every one I'll take a look at your photoblog if you have one. It's always nice to be inspired by others, so let me know what you think :)

Very nice technique, did you ever tried reversed lens? That gives a similar effect, I do that with an old takumar 55.

@daniela scharnowski: Yes, that's what I did here. Using the helios-44 with a reversed canon f1.8 50mm :3

I love the greens and if you hadn't said it was a plant it would've created interest to what it was. It reminds me of an insect ^^
